Todos Santos is supposed to be like Tulum was when Tulum was cool

Updated: Jul 23, 2021

We have landed up in Todos Santos for our annual family vacation due to some work constraints from a Los Angeles based child. Despite misgivings on long travel from the east coast to get to this side of Mexico, we have arrived in our rental villa with delight and surprise.

The drive from Cabo airport where one lands is easy. It takes a little over an hour following the speed limit which is advisable. We are in the off season summer but the weather is perfectly doable and thanks to the desert dry air quality, not unbearably hot. There is a little breeze inland and of course nearer the sea, it cools down immensely.

Faced unfortunately with new Covid restrictions, we anticipated a miserable week, due to beach closures, strict anti alcohol rules, and 8pm restaurant closings. Luckily for us, we aren't relying on any external features. We are situated in a magnificent villa close to town and amongst gardens of succulent, sweet mangos, avocados, fragrant magnolias and various species of cactus. The palapa greets guests and serves as the central living area for cooking, games, and escape from 5-7pm flies, but the outdoors is where one really enjoys the quiet serenity and the occasional sounds of farm animals. Sylvie Sabatier, the owner, is immensely helpful in suggesting ways to navigate the area and enjoy the boho elegance.

Town is laid back but offers exceptional coffee and pastries, delicious street food and gourmet restaurants. There are shops with crafts and locally grown organic produce. Many real estate agents offer homes for rent and for sale as the last year has seen a massive spike in interest and price. There is even an event planner and this is where it gets interesting to me.... Lets plan a magnificent wedding ceremony here in Todos Santos. We won't be the first, but we will be a standout. It's certainly less expensive than the USA, its definitely more exotic and if you were ever considering a destination, then put this one on your list.

Guests can easily afford hotel accommodation, there is lots to do, and you can choose different venues across a three day weekend to host fun filled days and nights. I would say it's best to have a legal marriage in the States, say perhaps in the court. And then, off we go, to perform a spiritual, fun, guest interactive ( surprise secrets only revealed after you hire me), wedding ceremony in a unique and authentic spot.

Google photos of the area- the beaches don't disappoint. Long isolated stretches, perfect for contemplation and In some areas, surfing. I hope the development stalls somewhat so this doesn't become over run and unaffordable the way that Tulum has. For now, I am a convert. See you soon!
