Whats your strategy for getting married now that the Delta Variant has landed?

You have postponed your wedding a year already.

You thought you were in the clear.

Everything is ready to go.

But suddenly, all the world is freaking out about Delta. It seems to be popping up everywhere. And now you are concerned that one or more of your guests has not had a vaccine.

How do you delicately handle this situation? Do you ask all your guests to produce copies of their certificates? Do you ask guests to take Covid tests not more than 72 hours in advance and send the results to you?

What do you do if you find out someone does not have a vaccine? Do you cancel their invitation?

I don't envy you. These are unprecedented complications to add to a wedding.

Normally we worry if people are all going to show up; we worry if they are having a good time; we worry about the food being tasty and the band playing upbeat music. We worry that our dress is flattering or that no-one who makes a speech will say anything inappropriate. We worry about table placements, about the weather, and about stumbling over our vows.

Now, we have to worry that the wedding doesn't become a super spreader event.

My advice is to start with the venue. If you were going to have your event indoors, see if there is an area outdoors. If that isn't possible, or the weather doesn't cooperate, find out if you can leave doors and windows open.

Check with the venue on their Covid policies. If you are uncomfortable on having unvaccinated guests, you should blame it on the venue. Ask the venue to take the responsibility of insisting that everyone present a vaccination certificate. Be resolute on your decision. You are entirely within your rights to expect to have a "safe wedding". This is a moral decision, not a political one.
