New York Weddings

I have been working quite a bit in New York - in the city and outside the city. It’s a very different type of wedding with so many different constraints.

First of all the cost of a wedding in New York City and the surrounding areas has to be one of the most expensive locations to host a wedding. We know that everything in New York is higher priced, but truthfully when it comes to weddings, its off the charts more! When you choose to have the wedding in New York City itself, you will find yourself facing many other challenges that are associated with living in a city of high rise buildings, little parking, union workers requiring certain wages, and tremendous competition to secure the event spaces during certain times of the year. Secondly- the weather plays a huge role in deciding the time of year, the location, and the logistics. Weather patterns are so unpredictable and with snow still falling in end March, its hard to imagine a spring wedding on the East Coast with delightful temperatures and assurances that your guests will be able to arrive in the event of a downfall.

If you decide on a location outside of the city, your guests may need to book accommodation and if this wedding ceremony is going to fall during the summer months, the accommodation is going to be extremely expensive. This is exacerbated if you choose your wedding to take place in the Hamptons, where hotel accommodations are limited and unaffordable.

If you are having a very large crowd to your wedding party and you wanted to choose a destination wedding like the Catskills, you might have to ask guests to stay at accommodation that is scattered around quite far from one another. This can dilute the intimacy of your wedding as it will be more difficult to keep all your guests in one place..

In New York City, wedding ceremonies can be performed in any one of the beautiful parks either in Brooklyn, the Bronx or the City. You may choose to have a simple roof top wedding ceremony or a more lavish one like at Rockefeller Center.

What I really adore though about my New York couples is how much they value my wedding ceremonies. They love the focus I put into creating the story from scratch and telling it in a slightly humorous and poignant way. New York couples seem to really enjoy being the star of their show ( I guess this is the home of Broadway after all), and I enjoy their delight in entertaining their guests with a one of a kind ceremony.
